and we say goodbye to Harper Lee

The New York Times bulletin I just got in my email reports the passing of Harper Lee, here shown with Gregory Peck on the set of To Kill a Mockingbird.  My copy has been read, reread, and re-reread so many times -- I still have the original copy that I've had since I was 14, and that was some time ago.  It's pretty dog-eared, the spine is broken, and there are a lot of grimy fingerprints on it,  but that just shows how very loved it was.  As was its author.

sleep well.

  1. Agreed. This is why it is awful that "Go Set a Watchman" was published, painting a terrible portrait of Atticus Finch, that no one who loved "To Kill a Mockingbird" needs to read. Nor do children today. Role models with ethics are important.
Not to mention what Gregory Peck would say.

Years ago I read an interview with him and when asked what the worst problem was in the U.S., he replied "racism." So, what would he say now?

    1. If haven't read Go Set a Watchman yet. I was going to when it was published, but I decided that since my real-world book group read To Kill a Mockingbird, we'd also read Go Set a Watchman together. The best part of that is, I'll be reading TKAM again!

Say what you will, but at least try to be nice about it.
