For the first time EVER, I found myself reading fantasy/magic/dragons type of books because of a book gift I had received. I found I really liked them and have ended up with a nice collection. I don't read John Grisham, or James Patterson and others anymore...for the reasons you stated--predictable endings-- & too many tugs on the heartstrings, and such. For a little while when this happened I felt like I was in unknown territory and I also felt like a traitor to my then favorite genre but now all is well. It will be for you too.
